Welcome Little One’s tribute to wonderful Mums everywhere.
Congratulations to all the new Mums. You’ve just taken on the most important job ever!
How lucky we are if we have a mother’s love, with its biased notions of our talents and skills! Since life began, there have been tributes to mothers, starting with stories and songs, moving on to novels, poems, letters, diaries and magazines and more recently blogs and vlogs. And very few can accurately describe the intensity of a mother’s love for her children. It’s just too big!
It’s the purest form of love: unconditional, never ending, deep, influential, forgiving, patient and nurturing. It is priceless in its value.
The best mums teach us to be strong, to be discerning, to be kind and brave and to appreciate the value of friendship.
They teach us to work hard and not to expect the world to revolve around us.
They know when to advise and when to let us learn from our own mistakes.
They make delicious cakes using family recipes that have withstood the test of time.
They move from soothing bruised knees to bruised hearts and egos, and know when to give you a silent hug.
Throughout their lives, Mums treat you to thoughtful gifts – and lunches whilst shopping- enjoying the pleasure of giving even when they can’t really afford to do so.
Mums want the best for you, missing you if you live far away, but accepting that this is your life.
The best Mums heed Khalil Gibran’s words in his poem to parents:
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts
But being the recipient of this enormous love brings a daunting responsibility too.
How many of you have heard your Mum say, I’m only truly happy if my children are happy? Yikes! No pressure there then! The great thing is that wise mothers accept that life is not always a bed of roses. They are there to pick us up when we fall as well as to share the good times. And for that we are all truly thankful.
Happy Mothers Day to much loved mummies
