The idea for Welcome Little One was conceived (excuse the pun!) when I found it difficult to find a gift hamper that was special enough to reflect the family’s happiness when our grandson, Tommy, was born. I decided to source some luxurious items and present them in a pretty white hamper. My daughter Kate was so delighted with the gift that I decided to create a similar hamper, available to anyone looking for something extra special to celebrate the arrival of a precious baby. I wanted everything in the hamper, and the willow hamper itself, to be luxurious, made in Britain – and beautiful.
Since then, I have loved sourcing lovely gifts from fantastic British companies-and recently creating the Create Your Own hamper option so that customers can make their gift even more personal. My heart lifts when a customer tells us how happy the recipient was with their hamper or gift at this magical time in their life.
With my best wishes,
Two items which are particularly special to me:
The Merino Wool Shawl
The gorgeous, soft traditional baby shawl in the hampers because it is very similar to one knitted by a much loved family friend for my daughter, when she was born. It makes me very happy that Kate is using it now as I love the idea of continuing the tradition as a new generation of the family begins. And it seems we were in good company when we chose to include it in our hampers: the shawl is supplied by G H Hurt and Son, a family business in Nottingham which specialises in crafting beautiful garments. HRH Prince William, HRH Prince George, HRH Princess Charlotte, and more recently Prince Louis were all bought similarly exquisite blankets made by the same company.
The Tale of Peter Rabbit
Like many people, I have very happy memories of having this book read to me when I was a child. And then of reading it to my own children. The story of the mischievous rabbit and his family is timelessly charming. And the illustrations by Beatrix Potter herself bring the story vividly alive. It’s a story that gives pleasure through the generations and I love the idea of people receiving their hamper and being pleased to find this family favourite.
